There are quite a few ways that you can support Neo Mechanica.

Regular Forum Activity

Just logging onto the forum regularly to check your messages and favorite topics helps. When we see that the site is getting more traffic, it inspires us to work harder to keep the site going. Posting regularly also greatly increases the potential fun of others. Take a few moments and share something. Everyone will benefit.

Also, put some thought into what you post. And hosting pictures externally helps too, since our hosting cost per month is based on how much storage we use. Following the rules in general is a cool idea.

Contributing to the Wiki

Post a request on the forum and an administrator will grant you the ability to log into the Wiki. Once logged in, you can create pages or modify ones that are already up. It's a lot of fun, we promise. And although much of the Wiki will be used for more serious purposes, we also think that it would be amusing to let members create their own pages, serious, or humorous. We would really like to have a website with a lot of different ideas from our members.

Bring a Friend

This is a community site, and bigger is probably better. We want to stay close-knit, but become more diverse. We'd rather meet a good friend of someone who is already a member than try to integrate a random stranger (but we like random strangers too, actually). Tell a friend about the site, give them a link, or show them personally when you're doing hanging out. If you like it, maybe they will too, right?

Donations

I'm going to be honest. I don't think that this site is going to cost much to host. www.NearlyFreeSpeech.NET provides us with cheap and reliable hosting. As of now, here's what they charge:

  • $7.99 to register a domain for a year
  • $0.01 a day for MySQL use.
  • $0.02 a day for Email forwarding.
  • $0.01 per Megabyte of storage per month.
  • $1.00 for each Gigabyte of transfer.

Through some number crunching and estimation, I estimate that the site will cost less than $30 a year to run. The only way that it would cost much more than that is if we used a lot more bandwidth, which would mean that the site was wildly successful. Basically, if we make it big, then we'll try to be a bit better about encouraging donations.

Direct donations

For now, you can use the link below if you'd like to directly send money to us to help pay for the costs of hosting. A few dollars goes a long way in covering hosting costs, and we'd like to avoid ads on the site, as they make things messy.

Buying Stuff

We also have these online store options. Basically, for every item you buy from them, we get $1. For the records, we will never ever ever be able to profit from these. Think of it as a T-shirt plus a $1 donation, plus advertising for us, plus something cool for you. We couldn't decide on what place to use for our shop, so you have two options:

  • Printfection Store: This is supposedly better quality for shirts. All of our clothing will most likely be here.
  • CafePress: They have lamer shirts, but better random other useless junk. We'll use them more for the random junk.

Spend as much or little as you want. Ordering in higher quantities saves you money and provides us with a greater donation, so getting one for a friend too is an awesome idea.

Also, we have no control over the actual production of these items. We are not in any way responsible for the condition or quality them. Here's how the system works: we upload an image, decide how it goes on a given shirt/doodad, choose colors, and have them display it as part of "our store." We don't deal with the money, make the thing, or ship it to you. The company (Either Printfection or Cafe Press) sends us a check after we've accumulated 25 sales. If you have any questions or complaints, please be aware of this before saying something stupid. If you want to give us feedback, that's fine, just understand what things we are responsible for, and which things we have no control over.

Supporters

We recognize supporters of Neo Mechanica on the supporters page of the site. When you make a donation or buy something at one of our stores, let CerebralDivinity know through a PM or email. Then he will be sure to add you to this page. Feel free to bug him until he does, actually. That's the only way anything ever gets done.
